What is metabolic age?

How this calculator estimates metabolic age
This tool first calculates your actual BMR using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation from your sex, age, height, and weight. It then computes a reference BMR using a healthy reference body weight for your height (based on a BMI of 22) at your actual age and sex. The difference between your real BMR and this reference BMR is converted into a rough age adjustment — approximately every 10 calorie difference corresponds to one year — which is added to or subtracted from your actual age to produce your estimated metabolic age. A higher BMR than the reference nudges your metabolic age younger; a lower BMR nudges it older.
